There's this gizmo called a dethatching rake and last weekend we got one and turned it loose on our lawn. What we found was nearly 20 gallons of last year's grass clippings that needed to be lifted, and now it feels like summer out there.
We also built -assembled, really- a new dining room table. The parts were from a variety of disposals at work, but the project needed a few tools to make a subtop to link the base and the top. It finally went together Monday night and feels just right in the house. Thank you Mr. Saarinen.
We also poured energy into clearing the hobby room. For the first time there are no cardboard boxes in there - just a desk, table, and entertainment center. This undertaking left us with a fairly embarrassing pile of recycling, but it's nice to be totally moved into every room...even if we moved into some of them three years ago.
Tonight was a little bit of an oddity: Mom and Grandma & Grandpa Irish were here for dinner. They didn't drive 1000+ miles for dinner, but were on their way to a north Philly memorial service and not stopping would have been almost as odd as driving 1000+ miles for dinner. They could only stay for about two hours, time for a tour of improvements and a tasty grilled chicken, couscous, and asparagus dinner.
