Acorns kept bombarding us all weekend. Every time the wind blew or a squirrel darted across a branch dozens of them would hurtle earthward towards heads and hoods.
We were in Harriman State Park for some late-summer camping and canoeing. We saw some scenery, enjoyed a great campfire, and made brownies inside of oranges and totally gourmet breakfast sandwiches. We paddled three different lakes and saw a decent number of woodland creatures along the shorelines. All of it was brilliant.
On our way home we visited a cool small town, Nyack NY. Top on the list there, at the foot of the Tappan Zee Bridge, was the house where Edward Hopper was born and lived. Featured prominently were a series of photographs of places - in Nyack - which made their way into Hopper's paintings. This was also a town which suffered from a low retail:restaurant ratio so we saw the sights and were on our way.
Outside of a busy weekend there is not much to report. I've been west Michigan on both sides of the weekend, working and flying long hours. This time I was solo on the ground so went to GR's wonderful ArtPrize festival/show/fair thing downtown. There were big numbers of folks outside and packing museums, shops, and restaurants. The whole thing elicited quite a few comments about the benevolent billionaires who have made the city thrive- and not a few Carnegie comparisons.
